Expertise Centre for Forensic Psychiatry
Welcome to the EFP website
The Expertise Centre for Forensic Psychiatry (EFP) was founded in 2002; it was a joint initiative of the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Health, Wellbeing and Sport, and the Forensic Psychiatric Hospitals.
The EFP's mission is to support the forensic psychiatric institutions in their endeavors to raise the quality of treatment and care; the ultimate goal is to achieve a safer society
The EFP aims its efforts at the whole field, consisting of forensic psychiatric hospitals, forensic departments of regular psychiatric hospitals, and psychiatric departments of correctional facilities. The EFP´s quality enhancement efforts are directed at the content, effectiveness and duration of treatment.
Goal.
The EFP aims to be an independent quality enhancement institution with regard to the treatment indication, treatment and care, rehabilitation, reintegration and longstay of tbs patients in forensic psychiatry. EFP secures high quality by bringing together experts and treatment staff from the various forensic psychiatric hospitals and detention centers, stimulating knowledge exchange and `state of the art` expertise, and initiating and facilitating relevant research studies.
The core business of EFP is `brokering and combining knowledge sources` in order to further the highest possible quality of treatment. This means that the EFP must stimulate contacts between the various experts involved, and must secure the latest knowledge and make this readily available to the field.
These activities will take shape in the following areas:
• Initiating, coordinating and facilitating multicentre studies covering broad areas of forensic treatment and care
• Development of evidence-based forensic treatment programs
• Development of national databases
